Arlington SEPAC Event, May 12th

“Understanding Executive Functioning Across K–12: How It Shows Up and How to Support It”

WHEN: May 12, 7:30 – 8:30pm (Zoom link)*

Join Kelly Colon, “The Neurospicy Professor,” for a webinar on executive functioning (EF) through a neuroaffirming, real-world lens. What we’ll cover:

  • What executive functioning is and why it matters for learning, behavior, emotions, and daily school life

  • Common parts of the school day that can create EF strain

  • Practical ways parents and educators can support children using neuroaffirming, responsive strategies

Kelly is an executive function and ADHD coach, educator, and neurodiversity advocate who helps families, students, and schools better understand how executive functioning shapes learning, behavior, and day-to-day success.

*This event will take place during the monthly SEPAC meeting.

Dyslexia Conference at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, 4/24

Friday, April 24th from 8:30am-5pm. The event is centered around adolescents and young adults. Speakers will be sharing their lived experiences and lessons learned from navigating the transition from high school to adulthood with dyslexia.

The event is open to the public, and high school students, parents, educators and administrators are encouraged to attend. Registration is on a first-come/first-served basis. The conference website and link to register can be found here.

  • John Chambers, Founder & CEO, JC2 Ventures and Former Chairman & CEO, Cisco Systems

  • Caroline G. Richter, PhD, Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Director of the Science of Child Development and Neurodiversity (STARS) Lab

  • Anna Toomey and Harvey Hubbell V, filmmakers

  • Students, educators and others who will be sharing their lived experiences and leading activities with attendees. 

Youth Event (ages 14-19): “Beyond the Likes”

Host: The AAP Center of Excellence on Social Media and Youth Mental Health

Beyond the Likes is an opportunity for 14-19 year olds to join a conversation about creating safe digital spaces. It is a zoom (which is funny, though it makes sense) but, regardless, kids would register here.

Adaptive Sports Opportunities this Spring: Track and Field, Flag Football

This spring, Inclyousion Sports has partnered with Arlington Recreation to provide inclusive sports programming for children with and without disabilities ages 2-10 years old to learn sports fundamentals together.

  • Spring 2026: Track & Field and Flag Football

  • Dates: Sundays, April 26th – June 21st (no program May 24)

  • Times: Ages 2-4 from 9-9:50am, Ages 5-7 from 10:00am-10:50am, Ages 8-10 from 11-11:50am

  • Location: Hurd Field, 25 Drake Road, Arlington

  • Fee: $265

Event, 4/15: “Why OT Eligibility Varies from School to Private Settings”

Host: Danvers SEPAC (event open to all)

  • Date/Time: April 15th from 6-7:30 PM

  • Location: Virtual

  • Speaker: Cody Lukasik, OTR/L, Weston Public Schools and Founder, Emerging Kids Pediatric OT

Event, 4/29: “When Screens Take Over: The Impact of Social Media & Screens on Tweens & Teens”

Host: Danvers SEPAC (event open to all)

  • Date: April 29th at 7 PM

  • Location: Virtual

This informative session will delve into the effects of social media platforms on mental health, emotional well-being, attention, identity development, and peer relationships in "tweens" and teens. The speaker, Sean O’Neill, BCBA, LABA, will provide valuable tips for parents to help them navigate their child's social media usage and dependence on screens. Register here.

Monthly Arlington SEPAC meeting, April 14th, 7:30pm, Zoom

What is SEPAC? Arlington’s Special Education Parent Advisory Committee (SEPAC) is a volunteer parent group that acts as a resource for parents and caregivers and advises the district and the School Committee regarding meeting the needs of students with disabilities in Arlington. Each school district in the state is required to have a SEPAC.
